As the National Fifth Encuentro process unfolds across the United States, one of the emerging voices is the need to strengthen outreach to Hispanic youth and young adults.
The Alexandria gathering included people from the U.S. church’s Region VIII, which covers Minnesota and North and South Dakota.
Up to 60 people from St. Leonard’s participated in gatherings during Lent as part of the local V Encuentro process forming two groups, one for Spanish speakers and one for English speakers.
The parishes of Little Falls and Belle Prairie learned to stay connected and make the effort to be welcoming and open with the Hispanic families in the area.
Members of the Presbyteral Council voted “to receive” the 2017-2018 budget for the offices of the Diocese of St. Cloud and heard reports about the Bishop’s Annual Appeal and the Encuentro process at their meeting March 28 at the Chancery in St. Cloud.

The fifth Encuentro is a four-year, national process that begins in parishes with five sessions. The themes for these five sessions, rooted in the Emmaus Scripture story, are: 1) Called to a Loving Encounter with Jesus, 2) With Words and Action: Do It! 3) Walking together with Jesus, 4) Bearing Fruits of New Life, and 5) Celebrating the joy of Being Missionary Disciples.
Bishop Kettler asked members of the council to consider representing the Diocese of St. Cloud as leaders from their legislative districts at the event and to encourage others from their areas to attend.
